The Extraction of Essential Oils
The quality of essential oils depends on the quality of distillation (the quality of the water, the plants, of the pressure and the temperature).
How does distillation work ?
The plants (already reduced to small peaces)are put into a stainless-steel barrel of 1000 l with steam passing through.
The steam permeates the plant material, solubilizes and vaporizes the aromatic molecules and absorbs the essential oil.
This steam, mixed with the essence, passes a serpentine where it condensates and cools down. The mixture of water and essential oils is absorbed by the “essencier”. The separation occurs naturally because water and oil do have different densities.
Subsequently, the essential oil is cast into vials to rest a few weeks before marketing.
